Alpha and Omega guideTwice the training, 2.4 billion a month

Omega trains twice as fast as Alpha and opens every ship and skill. Bought with ISK, a month of it is 500 PLEX, 2.37 billion ISK at the 30-day PLEX price, or 1.30 billion a month on a 24-month package. A Large Skill Injector costs 737.6M and gives 500k SP below 5M SP but only 150k above 80M, so the same skill point costs over three times as much later. Here is what Alpha can't do, what each way of buying skill points costs, and why farming skill points for sale doesn't pay with Omega bought for ISK. Prices come from live ESI data on 4 October 2026.

What Alpha can't do

Every account is Alpha until it has game time, and Alpha is free for as long as you play. Omega starts the moment game time is added, without logging out. Here is what the free clone gives up.

From CCP's Alpha and Omega support article, last updated 19 September 2026, and the EVE University Wiki. Training speeds assume 20/20 attributes and no implants; CCP's 2026 pages still describe Omega training as twice as fast. If your Omega runs out, skills outside the Alpha set go inactive, and so do the ships and modules that need them. You keep the skill points.

For a miner the line is clear. Alpha mines in a mining frigate, while every mining barge and exhumer needs Omega; the mining barge guide shows what they add. An explorer on Alpha flies the Tech I exploration frigates but not the Covert Ops ones, as the exploration guide explains.

What a month of Omega costs in ISK

You can pay for Omega with money or with PLEX. PLEX is an item you buy for ISK on the global PLEX market and spend in the New Eden Store, where Omega comes in five packages:

PackagePLEXPLEX a monthISK a month
1 month5005002.37B
3 months1,2004001.89B
6 months2,1003501.66B
12 months3,6003001.42B
24 months6,6002751.30B

PLEX prices are CCP's base prices, from its New Eden Store table of 23 June 2026. ISK is at the 30-day average PLEX price to 3 October, 4.73M; a year earlier it was 5.34M. Lately PLEX has traded near the buy orders: 4.66M on 3 October, with today's highest buy order at 4.665M and lowest sell order at 4.888M. So 500 PLEX cost 2.33B through buy orders or 2.44B bought at once.

At the 1-month price, Omega costs 79M ISK a day, every day. An average nullsec relic site in our exploration guide is worth 14M to 30M, so that is three to six sites a day just for game time. The longer packages cut the monthly price by up to 45%, but you pay up front: 12 months is 3,600 PLEX, 17.0B ISK at once.

CCP also runs Omega sales in the New Eden Store, and they move the PLEX price. On 23 June, the first day of a 25% sale, PLEX went from 4.50M to 5.03M. It was back to 4.49M on 3 July, three days after the sale ended. In September it jumped from 4.67M to 4.90M on the 12th and fell back to 4.67M on the 21st, the day after another sale ended.

So the cheapest month is PLEX you already hold, spent in a sale. In June a discounted month of 375 PLEX cost 1.69B with PLEX bought the day before the sale and 1.89B with PLEX bought on its first day. A full-price month was 2.25B.

How much an injector gives

A Large Skill Injector adds unallocated SP, which you then put into any skill you can train. How much it adds depends on your total SP, unallocated SP included, at the moment you use it:

Your total SPSP from one injectorISK per 1,000 SPOmega training it replacesAlpha training it replaces
Under 5M500k1.48M11.6 days23.1 days
5M–50M400k1.84M9.3 daysNone
50M–80M300k2.46M6.9 daysNone
Over 80M150k4.92M3.5 daysNone

SP amounts are from the injector's description in ESI. The price is the 30-day Jita average to 3 October, 737.6M, with about 2,210 sold a day. Training time is at 1,800 SP an hour on Omega and 900 on Alpha; past 5M SP an Alpha can't train at all. A Small Skill Injector gives a fifth as much, and five of them cost 750M, a little more than one Large.

The bracket is checked for each injector, not for the whole stack. Ten injectors used at 4.9M SP give 500k once and 400k nine times.

The same 737.6M buys 500k SP on a new character and 150k on one past 80M. Per skill point that is 3.3 times the price, which is why injectors are worth most early.

What a skill point costs

Omega is more than skill points, but if skill points are what you're after, here is what 1,000 of them cost each way:

Alpha only

Daily Alpha Injector50k SP, one a day
0.74
36.9M ISK on average, about 378 sold a day

Injector prices are 30-day Jita averages to 3 October. Omega uses the 30-day PLEX average, CCP's base prices and 1,296,000 SP per 30 days. If you would train on Alpha anyway, a month of Omega adds only the second 648,000 SP, which at the 1-month price is 3.65M per 1,000 SP. The Daily Alpha Injector sells about 378 a day; today its lowest sell order is 39.8M against a 36.9M average.

Three things stand out:

  • Below 5M SP an injector costs 1.48M per 1,000 SP, less than the 1-month Omega rate of 1.83M, and you get the SP at once.
  • From 5M to 50M SP, almost three years of Omega training, an injector costs 1.84M: the same as a month of Omega bought with PLEX. A 12-month package is 40% cheaper than both.
  • Past 80M SP an injector costs 4.92M per 1,000 SP, almost five times the 24-month Omega rate.

Staying Alpha: 5M free, about 20M injected

Alpha training is free but stops at 5M SP. From zero that takes about 231 days at 900 SP an hour; a new character already has some skills, so it takes a little less.

The 5M counts unallocated SP too. An injector used below 5M doesn't raise what Alpha can reach; it only gets you there sooner, and the queue stops sooner. EVE University's advice is to keep every injector, and any non-expiring SP in your redeem window, until you have trained to 5M.

Past 5M an Alpha can still add SP to Alpha skills, up to about 20M in all, but only by injecting. The cheapest way is the Daily Alpha Injector: 50k SP, Alpha only, one a day, 36.9M ISK on average. That is 0.74M per 1,000 SP, half the price of a Large Skill Injector even below 5M.

Thirty of them give 1.5M SP a month for 1.1B ISK. That is more SP than a month of Omega training for less than half the ISK, though only in Alpha skills. Going from 5M to 20M takes 300 of them, about 11B ISK and ten months; with Large Skill Injectors at 400k each it costs 27.7B.

Does farming skill points pay?

A Skill Extractor takes 500k SP out of a character with at least 5.5M SP and turns them into a Large Skill Injector. An extractor costs 468.5M and an injector sells for 737.6M, so each extraction is worth 269.1M before fees. It only pays if the Omega time that trained those SP cost less.

PLEX prices are CCP's base prices from its New Eden Store tables of 23 June (Omega) and 27 August 2026 (Multiple Character Training, or MCT: 350 PLEX for a month, 4,600 for 24 months), at 4.73M ISK a PLEX. No implants means 1,800 SP an hour; +5 implants and a remap that fits the skills give 2,700, and the implants cost extra. The last row uses June's 25% off Omega and August's 30% off MCT, both over now. Sales tax, 3.37% with Accounting V and 7.5% without, then takes 97M to 215M a month from each character's 2.87B of injectors.

At today's prices, training skill points to sell doesn't pay with Omega bought for ISK. Before fees it breaks even only with three characters on 24-month packages and +5 implants, and sales tax turns that into a loss. Bought in a sale, the same packages leave about 0.2B a month per character after sales tax at Accounting V.

It is different on an account that is Omega anyway. EVE University points out that then only the extractor counts: SP sitting in skills you no longer use are worth 269.1M per 500k before fees.

Both trade a fifth less than in the 30 days to 4 July, about 2,210 injectors and 1,720 extractors a day, at nearly the same prices.

What to buy

  • New and not sure you'll stay: play Alpha. It's free, and its 5M SP limit takes about seven and a half months to reach from zero.
  • You want an Omega-only ship, such as a mining barge or a Covert Ops frigate: there's no way around Omega. A month is 2.37B ISK through PLEX, or 1.42B a month on a 12-month package.
  • Omega and under 5M SP: a Large Skill Injector is good value at 1.48M per 1,000 SP, and it saves 11.6 days of training.
  • Omega and past 5M SP: inject for one skill you need now, not to build a character. Per skill point it costs what a month of Omega does, and past 80M almost three times as much.
  • Alpha past 5M SP: the Daily Alpha Injector is the cheapest skill point here, at 0.74M per 1,000 SP.
  • Farming skill points: not with Omega bought for ISK at today's prices.
Do I lose my skills if my Omega runs out?
No. Skills outside the Alpha set go inactive, and so do the ships and modules that need them, until the account is Omega again. Your skill points stay.
Can an Alpha use a Large Skill Injector?
Yes, but only into Alpha skills, up to about 20M SP in all. Below 5M SP the injected SP count against Alpha's free training, so wait until you have trained to 5M.
Does a month of Omega still cost 500 PLEX?
Yes, at the base price CCP listed for the New Eden Store on 23 June 2026. Longer packages go down to 275 PLEX a month, and sales cut them further.
Does Omega make an injector give more SP?
No. The amount depends only on your total SP, unallocated SP included: from 500k below 5M SP down to 150k above 80M.
Can I run two accounts at once on Alpha?
No. An Alpha can't run alongside any other client. To run several at once, every account logged in has to be Omega.
